Cheema hints at textile sector incentives

Pakistan Government is considering textile sector's demand for additional sops. Government is expected to hold talks with machineries and textile stakeholders to arrive at a decision.

Addressing a presentation ceremony at the seminar on 'Benchmarking Study of textile products' costing' in Islamabad yesterday, Federal Minister of Textile Industry Mushtaq Ali Cheema made this announcement.

Cheema also reviewed incentives provided to textile industries of Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, China and India for export and their effect on global competitiveness in absence of quotas.

Industrial experts patronized by the Textile Ministry made a presentation on output costs in Pakistan compared to Vietnam, Egypt, Bangladesh, India and Indonesia.

Cost factors like labour wages, power cost, production cost etc, for six counts of cotton yarn, seven types of grey fabric, bed sheets, denim fabrics and terry towels were included in the presentation.

Commerce Minister Humayun Akhtar Khan, Textile Ministry Secretary Syed Masood Alam Rizvi and Planning Commission's Deputy Chairman Akram Sheikh attended the event along with textile stakeholders in good measure.
