Experts from China Textile Industry Association believe that China has a huge potential market for bamboo fiber. 'Bamboo replacing cotton' will become a new trend in textile market.

A bamboo fiber products fair held on March 26 in Beijing displayed many products such as underwear, socks, T-shirts, bath towel, bathrobe, pillow and bedsheet, which proves that this material is becoming popular in the textile industry.

Bamboo fiber is the fifth largest natural fiber after cotton, flax, wool and silk. The garments made of this fabric were once known as 'the second skin.'

China is the homeland of bamboo. Bamboo species and bamboo storage level both take the first place in the world. According to statistics, currently there is 4.21 million hectares of bamboo area, and 127 millions tons of bamboo storage in the country, accounting for about one-third of global bamboo resources. Material shortage of textile plant fiber has become increasingly conspicuous, due to limited forest resources and cotton area.

While, a golf T-shirt made from bamboo fiber is sold at around 800 yuan, an ordinary bamboo shirt is just over 200 yuan. Though these products are irreplaceable, they are still accepted by many consumers.

It has been learned that current domestic production capacity of bamboo fiber is less than 10,000 tons, and market demand reaches tens of millions of tons.
