Labour intensive industries like textile and garment have managed to survive the economy of Bangladesh, where political disorder has become the order of the day. And this fact is supported by export figures of 2004-05 and 2005-06.
In woven garments, country's major export oriented product, Bangladesh has recorded huge growth in terms of value. The country exported US $3598.2 million of woven garments in 2004-05 and the figure increased to $4069.20 million in 2005-06.
Knitwear also tops the list of export products. Total value of knitwear exports was $2819.47 million in 2004-05 and this has gone up to $3788.43 million in 2005-06.
In jute goods and raw jute, country has registered significant growth. Jute goods witnessed rise of $65.01 million, while raw jute saw an increase of $59.31 million.
