LCCI to strengthen trade ties with DR

To strengthen and develop economic ties with Dominican Republic, the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) plans to send a delegation of prominent businessmen by June 2007.

It is an initiative on the part of Dominican Government as they are stressing on globalization and diversification of diplomatic and commercial relations with Africa, the Middle East and South Asia.

This will be first official trade delegation from Pakistan to visit Caribbean Sea island nation.

The Dominican Republic is one of the largest importers among 21 countries of Central American and Caribbean region with imports amounting to $11 billion in 2006.

Country's major imports include footwear, glassware, pottery, jewelry and semi precious stones, sport goods, home fabrics and textile chemicals among others.

Dominican Republic had recently entered CAFTA. The DR-CAFTA includes seven countries the United States, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua.
