In the sectors of POY, DTY and FDY, China is much stronger than India. China is also ahead in terms of advanced technologies and absorption, especially in polymerization process, which is close to the international level.

Since 2002, China's chemical fiber industry has maintained a stable and fast development momentum. In January 2002, synthetic fiber output reached 680,000 tons, while in May 2006, registered 1.55 million tons, an increase of 127.65 percent.

Although India is the fifth largest producer of synthetic fibers, it is far behind the development of China's chemical fiber industry. In January 2002, India's production only marked 60,000 tons. In May 2006 its production reached 87,000 tons, an increase of 44 percent. Moreover, looking at the output of the past few years, India's output has not been stable, and has undergone greater volatilities.

In addition, China also has a number of unique and rare natural textile resources. It is the world's largest producer of silk. Silk production accounts for more than 70 percent of the world.

China is a major producer of flax, its production capacity ranks second in the world. Although ramie fiber only forms one percent of the total fibers in the country, it accounts for 99 percent of world output of ramie fiber.

Besides cotton and synthetic fiber, India is the world's largest producer of jute, the second largest producer of raw silk. Its natural silk output ranks first in the world, so India's raw material supplies are relatively abundant.
