Apr '07
World cotton production is forecast in 2007/08 at 25.2 million tons, almost unchanged from 2006/07. Production in China (Mainland) is expected to decline slightly to 6.5 million tons, still the second largest up to date.

Production is expected to increase slightly in India to a record 4.7 million tons. Production in the United States is forecast down by 10% to 4.3 million tons.

World cotton consumption is projected to increase by 2% to 26.7 million tons in 2007/08, still driven by Chinese mill use.

International cotton trade is expected to rebound from 8.5 million tons in 2006/07 to 9.2 million tons in 2007/08, driven by an expected rebound in Chinese imports.

World cotton ending stocks are forecast down by 5% to 11.3 million tons in 2006/07 and by 10% to 10.1 million tons in 2007/08.

The International Cotton Advisory Committee is an association of 42 governments of cotton producing and consuming countries.

The Secretariat of the Committee publishes information related to world cotton production, supply, demand and prices, and provides technical information on cotton production technology.
