Industrial producer prices up 0.3% in euro area

The euro area (EA13) industrial producer price index rose by 0.3% in February 2007 compared to January 2007, and EU27 prices gained 0.2%. In January 2007 prices increased by 0.2% in the euro area, while they decreased by 0.1% in the EU27. In February 2007 compared to February 2006, industrial producer prices rose by 2.9% in the euro area and by 2.3% in the EU27.

Monthly changes:
In February 2007, compared to the previous month, prices in total industry excluding the energy sector rose by 0.3% in both the euro area and the EU27. Prices in the energy sector increased by 0.4% in the euro area, but decreased by 0.2% in the EU27.

Intermediate goods gained 0.4% and 0.5% respectively. Durable consumer goods rose by 0.4% in the euro area and by 0.3% in the EU27. Non-durable consumer goods increased by 0.2% in the euro area and by 0.3% in the EU27. Capital goods rose by 0.1% and 0.2% respectively.

Among Member States for which data are available, the highest increases were registered in Slovenia (+2.1%), Slovakia (+1.7%), Denmark and Luxembourg (both +1.2%). The only decreases were recorded in the United Kingdom (-0.8%) and Ireland (-0.4%).

Annual changes:
In February 2007, compared to February 2006, and excluding the energy sector, industrial prices increased by 3.4% in the euro area and by 3.6% in the EU27. Prices in the energy sector rose by 1.0% in the euro area, but fell by 1.4% in the EU27. Intermediate goods gained 5.9% and 6.0% respectively. In both zones, capital goods increased by 2.1%.

Durable consumer goods rose by 2.0% in the euro area and by 1.9% in the EU27. Non-durable consumer goods gained 1.5% and 2.0% respectively. Among Member States for which data are available, the highest increases were observed in Luxembourg (+9.1%), Hungary (+8.8%) and Bulgaria (+6.2%). The only decreases were registered in Denmark (-2.5%) and the United Kingdom (-1.4%).
