MEPZ SEZ exports upbeat in all but textiles

Madras Export Processing Zone Special Economic Zone (MEPZ SEZ) registered exports worth Rs2,327.1 crore during the 2006-07 fiscal, representing year-on-year rise of over 25 percent.
It was noted that the zone recorded significant growth in exports of all industries except that of textile and garment.
Once, among top contributors, textile exports dropped from Rs405.7 crore last year to Rs349.6 crore.
Gems and jewelry sectors also performed considerably well as the exports surged 203.6 percent from Rs105.96 crore to Rs321.77 crore.
Leather and sports merchandise has improved its export performance by 23.8 percent to Rs132.06 crore over Rs106.62 crore last fiscal.
