In its attempt to cut down imports, Government is urging domestic handicraft wholesalers and retailers to fulfill orders through locally manufactured products.
Sarawak Craft Council backed this campaign and believes that local handicrafts will be in ample supply.
Such steps will encourage artisans to create more quality as well as quantity merchandize.
A new Sarawak handicraft industry development workshop was unveiled recently, in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Alfred Jabu.
Government is further planning 10 Rural Growth Centres (RGCs) where handicrafts will also be promoted.
Administration has also called for enterprises to accept crafts at reasonable prices, so as to keep them competitive on global level.
