During first two months 2007, footwear exports to Panama rocketed, according to official sources of Ministry of Trade.
Exports reached $9.11 million, recording the growth of 118.98 percent against same period 2006, sources added.
Panama ranks seventh in country's list of exporting market for footwear accounting 1.47 percent, much higher than 0.77 percent in 2006.
The only category exported to Panama which saw a drop during the period, is knitting–capped shoes, while all other categories marked strong growth compared to last year.
Exports of sandals saw highest growth among all categories, at 1621 percent, followed by synthetic leather–capped sports shoes and plastic shoes at over 300 percent for both.
Most enterprises exporting footwear to this market are foreign invested, because domestic companies are facing monetary as well as marketing difficulties.
