Vietnam is supporting Federation of Russia's bid to join the World Trade Organization (WTO).
According to Nguyen Chi Tam, head of Europe Department of Trade Ministry, both the countries enjoy good trade relations, and Vietnam, even after accession to WTO, intends to strengthen cooperation in economy and trade with its long established associate.
There are some unsolved differences related to tariff and non-tariff barriers hindering Vietnamese business access to the Russian market. The two countries are trying to reach an agreement as soon as possible.
Sources from the Foreign Ministry said that a delegation from the Russian Trade Ministry visited Vietnam from April 1-3.
Officials from both the sides agreed to improve on commodity exchanges and expand investment in various fields.
The Europe Department's statistics revealed that in 2006, Vietnam exported $413.2 million worth of commodities to Russia including $62 million of textiles and garments and imported $455.7 million worth of goods.
