For the past four years, the substantive Cotlook A Index has been based on C/F offers to main Far Eastern ports, to reflect the massive shift in trade towards Asian markets and the concurrent, further steep decline in Europe's primary cotton spinning sector.
Cotlook has continued during that period to monitor offers to European markets, and to calculate the Cotlook A (NE) Index, but now gives advance notice that 2007/2008 will be the last season in which such a value is published.
Cotlook has yet to introduce the 2007/2008 Indices, to reflect forward shipment values. This would normally happen during the course of the next few weeks. The Cotlook A (NE) value then introduced will run until July 31, 2008.
No forward Cotlook A (NE) value will be introduced in the spring of next year. The Cotlook B (NE) will be withdrawn in the same way. The Bremen CIF index will remain as the only index based on European offers.
