Reports revealed by textiles ministry on March 20, 2007, show that during October to September, 2006 cotton arrivals at Indian market touched 22.57 million bales with each bale weighing 170 kg.
This accounts for 84 percent of the Government anticipation of 27 million bales production during the year. The yield was 15.74 percent higher than last year's arrivals of 19.5 million bales during the same period.
But now the daily arrivals of cotton have shown significant decline. Currently daily inflow of cotton from Punjab is almost zero, from Gujarat it is about 15,000 bales while Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra are providing 2,000 bales and 4,000 bales respectively.
