Growth-rate of textile exports from Tianjin drops in 2007

According to customs statistics, textile exports from Tianjin Port in the first quarter of 2007 (including clothing and textile yarn) valued at around US $1.338 billion, year-on-year rise of 4.8 percent but representing a drop of 6.4 percent from the growth-rate in the same period last year.

Textiles exports of general trade during the period amounted to $937 million, up 3.9 percent and accounted for 70 percent of the total value from Tianjin port in the same period. Textile exports of processing trade were $396 million, growing 7.0 percent, accounting for 29.6 percent of the total textile export value in the same time.

Major export markets were the EU at $326 million, increase of 15.4 percent, followed by the US and Japan at $248 million, a boost of 13.7 percent and $214 million, a climb of 1.7 percent, respectively.

Textile exports of the three markets together accounted for 58.7 percent of the total textile export value from Tianjin Port in the same period.

Exports to some non-restriction countries and regions grew rapidly.

Textile exports to Latin America stood at $65.96 million, swelling 25.5 percent. Exports to Philippine were $7.66 million, a surge of 69.5 percent. Exports to the UAE were $27.31 million, a growth of 36.0 percent.

Exports from State-owned enterprise decreased, while exports from private enterprises rapidly increased.

In the first quarter of 2007, state-owned textile enterprises in Tianjin port exported $430 million, down 9.5 percent, accounting for 32.2 percent of the total textile export value from Tianjin port for the same period.

Textiles exports of foreign-funded enterprises were $452 million, up 9.44 percent, accounting for 33.8 percent.

Private textile enterprises exported $367 million, an increase of 26.32 percent, accounting for 27.5 percent of the total textile export value from Tianjin port in the first quarter of 2007.
