Propylene production likely to double in 2011

According to the latest economic forecast of the Trade and Industry Ministry of Japan, China's propylene production could double in 2011 to 14.7 million tons per year.

Propylene production in 2005 was about 7.4 million tons per year. In 2005-2011, the average growth rate of China's production capacity for propylene will be at 12.3 percent, significantly higher than the world's average level of 4.1 percent.

Middle East region is expected to be the only region with growth rate higher than China.

Propylene production in Middle East would increase 239 percent between 2005-2011, from 2.6 million tons per year in 2005 to 8.8 million tons a year in 2011.

During the period, the annual growth rate of propylene production in Middle East region will be averaged at 22.3 percent.
