According to the sources of Golestan Province Cooperatives, Iranian cotton farmers are anticipating 15 percent growth in cotton production this year.

Farmers also expect to attain almost 75000 tons of production. Cultivation of cotton in dry parts of country is also supposed to be increased by 10 percent.

Cotton Cooperatives Association revealed that farmers faced difficulties in harvesting cotton due to low margins, increasing production costs and other settlement problems during last years. These causes have resulted in production decline of cotton.

Moreover, cotton farms are likely to cover area of around 13,500 hectares at this point of time. It is also said that in view of Iran's clothing industry, present production is much lesser than the desired as the industry demands around 1,30,000 tons and production reaches some 75,000 tons only.

Due to this situation the country has to remain dependent on import of the product. But now onwards the country wants to increase production capacity.
