During July-February 2006-07, Pakistan's exports to the giant EU market surged 8.6 percent from corresponding period previous year, to reach US $2.8 billion.
Textile and garment exports recorded considerable growth in the first eight months of this fical.
The export of readymade garments improved by $78 million during the period, raw cotton by $4.9 million, cotton yarn by $26.8 million, bed-wear by $32 million, knitwear by $9.8 million, artificial silk and synthetic textile by $445 million, tents and canvas by $3 million and other textile products by $6.3 million .
However, export of made-up textiles, towels, knitted crocheted and cotton fabric declined by $3, $11.1, $1.6 and $1 million, respectively.
Meanwhile, exports to the UK registered year-on-year rise of 13 percent, adding $49.7 million.
The export of readymade garments by $19.5 million, knitwear by $17.7 million, bed-wear rose by $19.5 million, towels by $3.6 million, artificial silk and synthetic textile by $6.6 million, raw cotton by $1.2 million and tents and canvas by $0.9 million.
Export of cotton fabrics to UK dropped by $15 million, cotton yarn by $1.8 million and made-ups of textile by $2.2 million.
While exports to Italy climbed 9.4 percent or by $34.9 million, that to Belgium rose five percent or $18.7 million, Spain recorded increase of 8.2 percent or $30.6 million and Germany registered growth of 4.7 percent or $17.4 million.
