China's emergence as mass-manufacturer in textile and garment industry has put other economies at risk and its trade policies have forced nations, especially Turkey, to contemplate over how to tame the dragon.

In a lecture titled "What Should Be Done to Compete with Global Economy", organized by Osmanbey Textile Businessmen Association (OTIAD), Prof Arman Kirim, Marketing Specialist and Strategist, underlines that China is a serious threat to Turkish textile business with only consolation in the name of ready-to-wear sector.

Kirim also pointed out that those who think that Turkish textile industry is on the verge of death are barking up the wrong tree. If textile dies in Turkey, it would mean textile ends in the world. Textile and apparel industry will grow in the next 10-15 years.

He noted it is a big advantage that Turkey has its textile and fashion designers. He further told that ready-to-wear and apparel sector will have a chance of success.

As Kirim explained, the companies, which understand their customers and are able to solve problems of the customers in this sector, will survive from the price pressure.

Moreover he said, "If you do not have qualitative products, you cannot sit to the table to deal. If you have poor quality products you will die. Doing business by underselling is not a clever business. You should not prefer underselling. The basic problem, which exists in all sectors in Turkey, is that all products are similar to one another. As long as they are the same, the buyer gets benefited."
