As the models and designers step off the catwalks of the Rosemount Australian Fashion Week, international designers and retailers all have one thing on their lips: Australian Merino wool.

“Everyone is talking and wearing wool – particularly Australian,” said leading fashion commentator Patty Huntington.

“I asked Stella McCartney why she pointed out the use of Australian Merino in her range, and she just said because it meant quality. People know it is a fantastic fibre.”

Jayson Brundson, a collaborator of Australian Wool Innovation (AWI), received rave reviews last year when he took his designs to New York fashion week. Australian Merino wool has an excellent drape and irresistible feel next to skin, making his new elegant designs a cut above the rest.

“I feel very proud to work with Australian Merino wool. It is an exciting fibre and surprising to use tropical weight wool with a wet look finish for a resort collection. The Australian Merino wool which I have previously utilised has been very well received and many wool garments have been ordered by customers across the globe,” said Jayson Brunsdon.

David Jones' Womenswear buyer, Damien Burke, highlights this season's movement towards wool as the must-have fabric.

“The perception of wool is that it is an essential fabric, and I would be surprised if there was anyone without wool in their wardrobe,” he said.

AWI has collaborated with a number of designers includingPeter Morrissey, Akira Isogagawa, Josh Goot, Jayson Brundson, Tina Kalivas, Lydia Pearson and Pamela Easton.
