Balasaheb Thorat, the Minister of Agriculture in Maharashtra, has admitted on this Wednesday that much-hyped genetically modified Bt cotton has failed in Vidarbha. This has made farmers of this region unhappy.
Agriculture Minister met with experts, officials, people's representatives regarding the yield of coming Kharif season and accepted that high-priced Bt seeds have proved a burden on Vidarbha farmers.
Thorat suggested that opening of Bt seeds to private companies may bring down the prices, which will make it cheaper to the farmers.
