AAMA-TEX, Asia Apparel Machinery & Accessories Exhibition (Incorporating Textile Machinery & Accessories and Leather Machinery & Accessories), is set to make its first presentation in India at the Bangalore KTPO Trade Centre from 14 to 16 March 2008.
The decision to launch the exhibition in India was at the request from major industry players, many of whom have been supporting the AAMA-TEX series, to be closer to their target markets. As one of the major garment producers in the world and Asia's economic powerhouses, India is an exciting market for sellers of garment machinery.
Bangalore is a hub for many major garment manufacturing houses, among which includes Arvind Mills, Gokaldas Images and the Raymond Group. In addition, the city is also located at the heart of South India's booming garment manufacturing hubs of Tirupur, Chennai and Coimbatore. Hence, it is an ideal location for AAMA-TEX's launch event in India, according to its organiser, the Sewing Machine Traders Association (Singapore).
Its association president, Mr Teo Kim Chuan, said, “India's garment manufacturing sector has been expanding at an astonishing rate in the post-textile quota era. Statistics from India's Ministry of Commerce shows that readymade garment exports amounted to nearly US$8.6 billion in the period of 2005-2006, a year-on-year increase of some 32 percent from the period of 2004-2005.”
To enable its garment manufacturers to compete more effectively in the global marketplace, the Indian government is extending the Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme (TUFS) under the country's 11th Five Year Plan in March 2007. With this extension, industry players will be able to enjoy greater subsidies in their purchase of new equipment.
