The rule regarding the payment of terminal charges for apparel exporters and importers came into force, yesterday.
Now, the traders are required to pay fixed charges only and no extra payments will be made to freight forwarders, shipping agents and main line operators.
This decision was applauded by the textile industry players who lost thousands as charges that were mostly illegal.
BGMEA President Anwar-ul Alam Chowdhury Parvez elaborated that garment exporter will be able to save Tk 6,000-7,000 in case of 20 feet container.
Experts say that this will help manufacturers and traders to provide better working conditions and money saved here can be used for upgrading machinery.
