Local carpets contain high formaldehyde content

According to a report from Sydney media community, formaldehyde content in Chinese carpets is very high and this can cause cancer. But, this report is not hampering Australian import of Chinese carpets because the country has not set up any limit of using chemical materials like formaldehyde in products of daily use.

Chinese carpets have nearly 10 times more formaldehyde content than permitted international standards. However, no complaint has been lodged so far.

Australian rules of quality inspection are slack as compared to that of US and Europe.
