Jute industry optimistic as farmers refuses plastic bags

After strikes in jute mills of Bengal, Union Government, in order to solve the crisis had placed an emergency order of 25,000 bales of plastic bags for food grain packaging.
However there is a ray of hope for jute industry. Siraj Hussain, Joint Secretary of the Union Food Ministry reveals on May 21, while attending a presentation on Jute Packaging Materials Act, 1987, in New Delhi, that farmers in most states like Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh have refused to use synthetic bags for food grain packing.
Bhaskar Khulbe, the representative of the Bengal Government, submitted a letter to Union Textile Minister Shankersinh Vaghela, regarding the continuation of compulsory packaging of food grains in jute sacks for the survival of the industry.
The jute industry, has guaranteed the yield of enough fibre in the coming years for kharif and rabi seasons. Read more
