Geeteara Safia Chowdhury, the adviser for Ministries of Industries, Jute, Textile, Social Welfare, Women and Children Affairs, while attending a meeting with Bangladesh Handicraft Manufacturers' and Exporters' Association (BanglaCraft) said that the Government is planning to set up a separate market for handicraft products.
This will help to attract domestic and foreign buyers, inturn increasing exports.
This announcement is surely going to create hope among artisans who are involved in production and development of different handicraft items.
The condition of craftsmen in Bangladesh is not very encouraging. They are struggling for their existance with very limited resources like raw material and land for workshop.
The handicraft sector in Bangladesh is in vigorous need of financial assistance from the Government agencies, so that they can meet the requirements of international standards.
Now it can be expected that Government will implement on the assurances given and take firm actions in this regard for the growth of this export oriented sectors.
