State Government's effort to boost the cocoon growing sector is now showing rosy results.
Silk Cocoon growers from Singhbhum and Santhal Pargana have done a record business of four crores during the last financial year.
Government has ensured that 5000 workers engaged in this sector should get the right price which was fixed by the Central Silk Board (CSB) for the sale of cocoons.
CSB has set the price of per cocoon at around Rs1.10, however, cultivators obtained rates ranging from Rs1.30 to Rs1.50 for each cocoon based on the quality.
State Government has provided basic seeds for plantation and proper training to cocoon growers at the 28 pilot project centres spread over Singhbhum and Santhal Pargana for over a year.
