I hope LCL can be one of the Malaysian companies at the forefront of capitalizing on Malaysia's strengths, particularly in furniture exports. Malaysia has a long and distinguished 20-year track record in furniture design and exports.
LCL could spearhead the promotion of Malaysia-made and designed furniture in the Gulf States , and help establish Malaysia as a globally recognized source of distinctive world class furniture.
In 2006, Malaysia exported RM8.1 billion (US$2.31 billion) worth of furniture. Exports of furniture to UAE increased 24 percent to RM313 million in 2006, from RM252 million in 2005.
The right positioning of Malaysian companies in major markets like Dubai will provide exposure to promote Malaysian products and services, in addition to the traditional methods of trade promotion like trade fairs. LCL's showroom will provide a permanent base to showcase Malaysian products and designs.
In closing, let me congratulate LCL Corporation for establishing this showroom in Dubai. I would urge LCL directors and staff to work hard to make this new venture a success and to continue to strive to produce and export the highest quality of Malaysian products and services.
