India - emerging export market for Shaoxing textiles

In January-April this year, the total exports to India from Shaoxing County reached US $55.59 million, an increase of 110.2 percent, of which, 90 percent was textiles.

It shows that major developing countries, represented by India, are becoming important markets for Shaoxing County in textiles trade.

Recent statistics show that Indian textile demand is expected reach $115 billion by 2012. This will also create business opportunities for many textile enterprises in Shaoxing.

At the beginning of this year, the local government of Shanjing County sent a delegation to visit India, UAE to make investigation on economic and trade opportunities.

Meanwhile, Indian Industrial delegation also made tour around Shaoxing County. Such activities to some extent promote textile exports to India.

In addition, Shaoxing has many textile trade companies and offices established by Indians. In the Textile City, Indians have opened more than 200 trading companies.

According to the Public Security Bureau of Shaoxing County, the registered permanent population of Indians in Shaoxing is nearly 1,000 people, who have played an important role in strengthening textile trade between Shaoxing and India.
