Wal-Mart brings supercenter shopping to New Boston

“For some of these people, being able to do all their shopping at a Wal-Mart Supercenter right here in town will help them stretch their money a little further.” According to the research firm Global Insight, on average, families who shop at Wal-Mart save an estimated $2,300 each year.
As is Wal-Mart's custom, the store will give grants to community groups, which have a positive impact on the community. Following that tradition, the New Boston store will give $18,000 in grants to local civic and charitable organizations.
Because the store has been an integral part of this small community, the grants are being given to a variety of organizations. “We don't just work here. We live here, too,” said Mason. “We wanted to give our grants to groups that serve our community and benefit our customers.”
The store originally opened in 1990 at 4000 Rhodes Ave, about a half-mile away from the new store. At 204,000 square feet, the Supercenter is approximately 86,000 square feet larger than the original store.
It will feature apparel and accessories, fine jewelry and health and beauty departments. Shoppers can select from a full line of groceries, bakery goods, deli foods, frozen foods, meat and dairy products, fresh produce and organic products, and an expanded electronics and home entertainment section offering the latest in laptops, digital media players and high-definition flat screen televisions.
The store will have other popularSupercenter features such as a Tire & Lube Express, a pharmacy, portrait studio, a one-hour photo lab, a family fun center and a Wal-Mart Connect Center.
Leased areas include a SmartStyle Family Hair Salon and a branch of Woodforest Bank. A Subway restaurant is expected to open in July. Customers can pay for their purchases at one of 24 full-service and six express check-out lanes.
