Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (VITAS) recently planned to increase its proportion of domestic garment's material in textile and apparel goods for export, up to 50 percent by 2010, official sources from Vitas said.

To carry out the plan, Vitas is inviting enterprises to invest in establishing large scale projects of garment materials and accessories so that the domestic industries can catch up with non stop changes in apparel and fashion development of the world.

So far, Vietnam National Textile and Apparel Corporation (VINATEX) has been executing construction of three key centers of garment's materials and accessories located at Ho Chi Minh city, Hanoi and Dang Nang.

Although Vietnam is one of top textile and apparel exporting countries of the world, its textile and apparel industry imports about 80 percent of materials and accessories from major countries like China, Korea, Japan, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Thus investing in garment materials and accessories is vital for the growth of this industry as this would act as a platform for foreign suppliers, manufacturers and traders to meet and cooperate with the local partners. This would also strengthen the textile and apparel sector of Vietnam opined industrial experts of VITAS.
