Sears speeds up savings for Ontario ENERGY STAR clients

Sears Canada Inc announced that it will offer customers in Ontario a point-of-sale discount equivalent to saving the provincial Retail Sales Tax on selected energy efficient products starting immediately.

On June 20, 2007, the Ontario Ministry of Revenue announced point-of-sale RST exemption for certain new ENERGY STAR major appliances and other household products purchased between July 19, 2007 and July 20, 2008.

"Sears wants to give our customers in Ontario the opportunity to realize savings on qualifying products right now and not wait until after July 19th," said Dene Rogers, President & Chief Executive Officer, Sears Canada Inc.

"Some customers may not be able to wait until the third week of July to purchase Energy Star products, and we don't want them to miss out on the savings when making their major appliance purchase at a time it makes sense for them to do so. We will offer the equivalent savings on those products until the Ministry of Revenue exemptions begin."

Sears carries hundreds of major appliances and other products that carry the ENERGY STAR qualifying symbol in both popular national brands as well as Kenmore, Canada's largest selling brand of major appliances sold exclusively at Sears stores across Ontario, through the Catalogue at SEARS, and through the web.

Sears has been a long-time supporter of the Energy Star program, having been named the first ever ENERGY STAR Retailer of the Year in 2003 by Natural Resources Canada.
