According to customs statistics, in the first five months of 2007 (January to May), China has imported 23,900 tons of viscose staple fiber (VSF).
May imports reached 5,043 tons, representing a decrease of 425 tons from April, down 7.8 percent. Average import price in May stood at US $2.46 per kilogram, an increase of 0.4 percent over April.
During this period, country's total exports of VSF amounted to 44,600 tons. May exports scored 9,230 tons, an increase of 4.4 percent over April, with average price set at $2.01 per kg, up 4.15 percent over last month. Surplus in trade is observed for five consecutive months.
In May 2007, China exported mainly to Austria, Taiwan and US with supply volume of 1803 tons representing 35.77 percent, 1294 tons at 25.67 percent and 788 tons with 15.63 percent, respectively.
Austria tops the chart of importers list for China's viscose staple fiber for five consecutive months this year.
Average import price of viscose staple in May from Austria, Taiwan, US, UK and Indonesian marked at $2.48, $2.19, $2.40, $2.89 and $1.98 per kilogram, respectively.
