Association of the Nonwoven Fabrics Industry (INDA) in collaboration with PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore organized the First International Collaborative workshop in South India that was inaugurated yesterday. INDA is offering a two-day workshop at PSG College of Technology on 5 – 6 July. The workshop is aimed at giving the necessary information for starters as well as those in the field to kick start the nonwoven industrial base in India. The workshop features video presentation of actual nonwoven machinery in operation and will also display the various non woven products. This show and tell is first of its kind in South India.

This unique workshop will be very valuable for industry, research organization and academia dealing with textiles in India. The workshop will be conducted by Dr.Seshadri Ramkumar of Texas Tech University, USA who is the Co-Chairman of INDA's India committee. The workshop is co-ordinated by Mr.M.Mallyah of INDA – India and Dr.T.Ramachandran, Head, Textile Department, PSG College of Technology.

Dr. Ramkumar during the opening said, “India is poised for tremendous growth in the manufacturing and retail sectors having already made its mark in the IT and service sectors. Governments of India's aim and policies are all geared up towards having a double digit inclusive growth. The exponential growth in the information technology industry in India has no doubt enhanced the middle class population in India, but the growth has been confined to only certain segments of the society. India's majority of population, approximately 60 percent still live in rural areas. It is important to raise the standard of living of the rural population to have all inclusive growth."
