As a fashion insider, research is Dhyana's mainstay and she believes it is very important to be well-informed and keep others informed as well. "As a supplier, you need to come up with a new collection every 2-3 months. Also, it is essential that you keep a tab on the latest retail trend," she elaborates.
In her capacity as a garment expert at CBI, Dhyana has spearheaded various programs that train garment producers in Asian countries to adopt an independent and direct approach in dealing with European buyers. "I believe in direct business," says the expert.
Sharing her vision for the future of fashion industry, Dhyana said the next big leap is retail collection. As far as the garment industry is concerned, she said, "There is growth potential but as the bulk of suppliers are in developing countries, they need to get professional and become Net-savvy so that they can speedily update the status of their products." Dhyana said China was doing relatively well in this aspect.
She also put emphasis on Government's role in boosting the garment industry, adding that fewer trade barriers and visa woes can go a long way in helping the industry.
In concluding moments of the interview, Dhyana highlighted the child and 45-plus segment as target consumers. They are the ones who, after 15 to 20 years, will help shoot up the demand for sports and leisure clothing.
