The three-day 44th International Man-Made Fibres Congress will begin in Dornbirn, Austria from September 21, 2005.

The Congress is again held under the patronage of CIRFS/Brussels the INTERNATIONAL RAYON AND SYNTHTETIC FIBRES COMMITTEE.

85 speakers from 13 nations will cover the following congress themes:

- Textiles for Automotive and Transportation
- 23rd Intercarpet / Textile Floorcoverings
- Flammability Issues
- Developments in Fibres

This year's plenary lectures will be opened by Mr. Omer Sabanci, President CIRFS/Brussels, dealing with the challenge of global competition, followed by Mr. Necat Altin, General Manager of Korteks/Bursa on the development of the Man-Made Fibers Industry in Turkey. Prof. Werner Hufenbach from Technische Universität Dresden will make a contribution on the subject of lightweight engineering – new prospects for the textile industry.

For the first time Textiles for Automobiles and Transport will deal more extensively with the importance of fibres and textiles in their versatile functions as to applications in space- and aircraft, automobiles and transport management. Textiles are a decisive factor in modern lightweight construction but stand for comfort and protection in the car interior, too.

Papers within the 23rd Intercarpet present the challenges of the carpets industry. The traditional Floorcoverings will experience a new renaissance due to added functionalities.

Steadily growing needs for safety will be covered by contributions on Flammability Issues with a focus on textile interior decoration.

Developments in Fibres have always been a special topic of the INTERNATIONAL MAN-MADE FIBERS CONGRESS in Dornbirn and will show examples of technical and non-wovens applications as well as the functionalisation of fibres and textiles.
