The trade relations between Uganda and Rwanda have developed very well in the last few years. The former foes turned allies are again working hard to put behind them the years of war and accusations of supporting insurgent groups. Uganda exports to Rwanda rose by nearly 60 percent over the previous year to reach over US $880,400.

Exports from Uganda to Rwanda primarily constituted of textiles, jewellery, cosmetics, petroleum products and fertilizers, among others. All this was possible only due to the improvement of relations between the two African countries.

A lot of other confidence building measures are on the cards to increase the trade between the two countries. Among them are starting of a direct air link by the national carrier of Uganda to Kigali. Also in the pipe line could be improving the road & rail links between the two countries to facilitate better movement of goods.

The increase in trade by as much as 60 percent is attributed to the fast growth of the Rwandan economy. Uganda has done well to take advantage of the same being neighbors sharing common borders.
