Whether you're interested in local or social history, textiles and textile machinery or just looking for an afternoon out with a difference, the sensory experience of Queen Street Mill has something to delight and intrigue visitors of all ages.
Together with its sister museum, Helmshore Mills Textile Museum in Rossendale, the two museums help to bring the East Lancashire textile industry to life. Helmshore museum is currently closed to visitors for major improvement works.
Ian Gibson, Head of Collections for Lancashire County Council Museums Service, said:
"We are delighted to have been recognised for this important award.
Queen Street Mill, along with many of the county's museums, plays an important role in keeping the history of Lancashire alive, offering families a great opportunity to learn and discover more about their heritage."
The award was officially presented to Lancashire County Council by the President of the AIA, Professor R Angus Buchanan, at Queen Street Mill on Wednesday 28 November.
The museum is open until 29 November and will re-open 6 March 2008.
