Official sources of Ministry of Industry and Trade revealed that in the period from January to November 2007, Vietnamese textile and apparel industry showed its heavy dependence on imported raw materials for local production.
During this period, the country imported 50 thousand tons of mixed polyester for US $76.6 million, which rose by 23 and 29.3 percent respectively from same period 2006.
On the same line, yarn import turnover showed a value of $46.2 million, rendering a year–on–year growth of 36.3 percent.
Imported thread volume showed the largest figures at 142.3 thousand tons worth $212.8 million, up by 7.5 and 21.4 percent against same period 2006.
