The year 2007 proved lucky for Mozambique with the sale of top quality cotton earning it revenue of US $16.1 million.
The report was announced by the Cotton Institute in Maputo which also confirmed that quality cotton occupies nearly 80 percent of the total crop sold in Mozambique.
While the lowest price for cotton is still a little more than affordable, some producers have successfully managed to get a premium of 7 to 13 percent by bargaining with the buyer companies.
Further, the institute also asserted that exports of 27,000 tons of cotton are likely to procure revenues of $27 million. Moreover, a total of 19,673 tons is yet to be exported in the first quarter of this year.
This year, cotton ginning has produced 40,000 tones of cotton seeds that may very well get sold at lucrative prices.
