On January 2, the Turkish Government formally informed the authorities in China that their textile products have created disturbances in the local market as they are posing threat to the nation's textile industry. Thus, Turkey has decided to continue the quota limit on 44 categories of textile products from January 1 to December 31, 2008.

The local Government also decided to implement their own classification standards and management system from 2008 starting. Till last year, Turkey was following the implications of EU's textile and clothing classification. Now, the 40 categories of Chinese textile products will be divided into 20 groups.

The trade ministry also planned that 75 percent of the quota are to be supplied to the traditional importers of Turkey and the remaining 25 percent will be freely handed out.

To cooperate with the Turkish Government, China Chamber of Commerce for Imports & Exports of Textile has decided to comply with the present rules and regulations, so as to avoid any kind of disturbances in the trade with that country.
