Exports of jumper suit shot up

An official source of Ministry of Industry and Trade informed that in the period from January to November, last year, Vietnam exported 13.7 million jumper suits, worth US $72.1 million, posting a growth of 9 and 21 percent, in terms of volume and value, against same period 2006.
Export price for the jumper suits saw a hike of 20.2 percent at $5.91 per unit (FOB), in November compared to previous month, and climbed by 28.9 percent over similar period previous year.
Another report from the MOIT show that among all products exported to EU in recent years, textile and apparel stood at the second place, after footwear, as Vietnamese garment products have been improving its competitiveness at this market.
In 2007, the textile and garment exports to EU market touched $1.432 billion, while the figures of 2006, 2005, 2004 and 2003 are $1.245 billion, $882.8 million, $760 million and $537.1 million respectively.
Both MOIT and VITAS has set an export target of US$ 1.7 billion for textile and apparel products in 2008.
