Overall retail sales in Jul 2005 declined marginally by 0.8% compared to Jun 2005.Excluding motor vehicles, the index went up by 1.7%
Total retail sales value in Jul 2005 was estimated at $2,463 million compared to $2,484 million in Jun 2005.
Retail trade industry performed well in July 2005 as Great Singapore sale went on till late July. Most sectors reported higher turnover compared to Jun 2005.In particular, shops selling telecommunications apparatus & computers reported sales increase of 14% in Jul 2005. Retailers of wearing apparel & footwear, optical goods & books registered sales increases for three consecutive months from May to July 2005.
Conversely, sales of medical goods & toiletries dropped by 14% while sales of motor vehicles and recreational goods fell by about 2%-3% in Jul 2005.
Based on seasonally adjusted series,overall retail sales in Jul 2005 fell by 3% over Jun 2005. Excluding motor vehicles,the index increased by 2% compared to the previous month.
