An additional 350 m2 of laboratory floor space recently became available at the Hohenstein Institutes' Material Testing Department. The increased capacities will be of particular benefit customers who are commissioning tests for harmful substances and independent quality control monitoring.
The Scientific Head of the Material Testing Department, Dr. Manfred Hartmann, is pleased: "Due to the additional resources, we have been able to reduce drastically the processing time for testing jobs."
More than doubling the available laboratory space was possible because research areas were shifted to the newly inaugurated Josef Kurz Service and Innovation Building which was opened in September 2007. A number of additional lab and analysis devices for chemical and physical testing were among the new investment items.
The spatial re-organisation made it possible to implement many ideas for optimising internal processes within the department which were gathered through the firm's employee suggestion system. That has had a positive effect on processing times for the following services: • Tests for harmful substances on textiles according to Oeko-Tex Standard 100 • Auditing production sites according to Oeko-Tex Standard 1000 • On-site inspection of production facilities world-wide • Independent quality checks • Testing of the material quality of textiles and apparel • Determining the material composition • Checking behaviour duringcare processes • Advice for textile and clothing industry, as well as the retail sector • Certification of personal protective equipment • Testing of feathers and down
