While discussing about the competition with China and Bangladesh, Mr D K Nair conveyed, "Although China dominated the international market for a long time, but I am sure in future countries like Bangladesh, Vietnam and Indonesia will leave that country behind in garment sector."

According to recently released data by US government, textile export to US in terms of value increased 3.4 percent in 2007 over the previous year, while volumes increased by 1.8 percent. This clearly shows that the per unit prices paid by US consumers in dollar terms were higher in 2007, compared to the previous year. But for Indian side per unit realization decreased, as is evident in figures for textile exports in value and volume terms.

Indian textile and apparel exports to the US rose in value terms to $5,103 million in 2007, a rise of 1.5 percent over previous year. The volumes, however, were comparatively better, as it went up 2.6 percent.
