Indian Oil creates new record in crude processing

It is noteworthy to mention that IndianOil's Panipat Refinery achieved the lowest energy consumption of 63 MBN.

In the background of the increasing requirement of energy and supporting infrastructure, IndianOil has embarked upon an ambitious plan in Petroleum & Petrochemical sector. IndianOil plans to take the group refining capacity to 80 MMTPA by 2011-12, and play a key role in realizing India's bid to emerge as an export hub for finished petroleum products.

During the 11th Plan period, planned investment of more than Rs. 45,000 crore has been envisaged in Refineries Division alone. The project cost of the ongoing mega projects viz. Naphtha Cracker Project at Panipat, Residue Up-gradation & MS/HSD Quality Improvement Project at Gujarat Refinery, Improvement in Diesel Quality & Distillates Yield (Hydrocracker) Project at Haldia Refinery and MS quality improvement projects at Panipat, Mathura, Barauni, Guwahati and Digboi refineries itself amounts to Rs. 23200 crore.

IndianOil is also setting up a 15 MMTPA grassroots refinery integrated with petrochemicals units (paraxylene, propylene and styrene) at Paradip. The investment at Paradip is the biggest ever planned at one location by any organization in India and its implementation is a big challenge.

Further, IndianOil is keenly looking at many more value added projects like Paraxylene Plant at Gujarat, Delayed Coking Unit at Haldia and project to enhance High Sulphur Crude processing at Barauni Refinery, etc. These projects have already been approved ' in-principle'.
