Govt to make the Urban Haats operational at the earliest

The total number of Urban Haats sanctioned by the Government in the country during the Tenth Five Year Plan are 27.
Out of 27 sanctioned urban haats 5 Urban Haats have become Operational at Srinagar (J&K), Bhuj (Gujarat), Mysore (Karnataka), Konark (Orissa) & Pitampura (Delhi).
The remaining Urban Haats are at various stages of progress. Urban Haats at Surat (Gujarat), Thiruvanathapuram (Kerala) and Patiala (Punjab) have been cancelled by the High Level Screening Committee on Urban Haats.
The steps taken by the Government to make the Urban haats operational at the earliest, include: monitoring the progress made at various stages by the implementing agency; periodic site visit / inspection by the officers of field offices to assess the progress of the work; and periodical review meetings on Urban Haats by the High Level Screening Committee etc.
This information was given by the Minister of State for Textiles, Shri E.V.K.S. Elangovan in a written reply in the Lok Sabha.
