The new plant also establishes a milestone in the path of diversification of raw materials used by Braskem, expanding its strategic and operational flexibility. Paulínia is designed to use propane gas from the refinery, provided by Petrobras through Replan and Revap, both in the State of Sao Paulo.
This plant, combined to projects of green polymers from ethanol and that should be deployed in Venezuela based on natural gas, reduce the participation of naphtha in all major raw materials by 50%.
To meet the need of raw materials of the new plant polypropylene, Petrobras is investing U.S. $ 450 million in plants of the propane Replan in Paulínia, and Revap in Sao Jose dos Campos. The two plants are being fully implemented by Petrobras.
The Spheripol technology used in Paulínia was provided by the Braskem and represents the state of the art technology available in the international market, providing high performance in productivity with minimum environmental impact.
The project met all the requirements of sustainability, including collectors of rainwater for reuse in administrative buildings, which were built with the modern system Concrete-PVC, and use of solar energy in non-critical processes.
"The new unit reflects the commitment of Braskem with sustainable development and confidence in the sustained growth of the Brazilian economy which should maintain high demand for thermoplastic resins in the next few years," concludes Grubisich.
