Manufacturing industries witness a sturdy growth in Q1

Ireland is expected to see a robust growth in 2008 as its manufacturing industries have registered an extraordinary surge in the month of March compared to the same period last year. There is no doubt that this trend portends a positive growth for the months to come.

On an annual basis production for manufacturing industries for March 2008 was 7.0 percent higher than in March. The seasonally adjusted volume of industrial production for manufacturing industries for the three month period January to March 2008 was 0.3 percent higher than in the preceding three month period.

The 'Modern' Sector, comprising a number of high-technology and chemical sectors, showed an annual increase in production for March 2008 of 10.2% while a decrease of 1.3 percent was recorded in the 'Traditional' Sector including textiles.

The seasonally adjusted industrial turnover index for manufacturing industries was 4.6 percent higher in the period January to March 2008 when compared with the preceding three month. On an annual basis turnover was 3.9 percent higher when compared with March 2007.
