Glen & Somfy launch National Awning Awareness Initiative

With a goal of increasing consumer awareness of the benefits of awnings, Glen Raven Custom Fabrics and Somfy Systems have launched a national program that includes consumer advertising, dedicated web site and an awning dealer locator. The program began in April and will continue through the peak selling season of 2008.

"Numerous factors are coming together that make awnings an increasingly desirable product for consumers," said Doug Dubay, awning market manager for Glen Raven, which produces Sunbrella fabrics, the leading choice for awnings.

"Two hot topics on consumers' minds that are making awnings more attractive are the need for energy conservation and growing awareness of harm to people and home furnishings from sun exposure."

The central element in the new marketing program is a dedicated web site - www.outdoorspaces.com - which includes extensive information on the benefits of awnings as well as consumer information on how to secure the right awnings for a home. A dealer locator is accessible on the site, searchable by zip code.

"We are reaching out to awning professionals nationwide to take part in this program by being listed on our dealer locator as a consumer awning resource," Dubay said.

"The goal of the web site is not only consumer education, but also to facilitate contacts between consumers and fabricators."

To encourage consumer visits to the web site, Glen Raven is running ads in leading consumer shelterpublications, including Coastal Living, Home, This Old House, Veranda, Sunset and Traditional Home.
