National Federation of Industries of Republic of China recently confirmed that, Taiwan towel industry has urged its Government to strengthen inspection on towel products imported from Vietnam.
The industry expressed its concerns that towels Made-in-China Mainland were re-entering Taiwan through Vietnam.
It was noted that though Taiwan had successfully imposed anti-dumping duties, low-priced towels from China were still considered a threat, as they were re-transported into the country via Vietnam.
Local towel manufacturers said that in order to circumvent anti-dumping duties levied on towels by Taiwan, a number of Chinese traders declared fake place-of-origin, slightly modified the products, or re-export goods that were partly manufactured in third country.
Though anti-dumping tax on Chinese towels offered some relief, such illegal tactics were posing strong threat to the domestic towel industry.
Industry experts have advised that, Government carry-out anti-circumvention investigations, if necessary, so Taiwan could impose anti-dumping duties on towel imports from Vietnam.
